Meet a Neighbor:

MIRAcle Workers

As part of VHNA's commitment to showcase Vallejo Heights, we wish to feature a group of dedicated neighbors.

The Bay Terrace Theater was originally built as an elementary school for children of Mare Island workers and is in process of being repurposed and transformed into a mutli-use community arts and education space

The MIRAcle workers was formed to help support this transformation and has been working with the Mare Island Recreation Association (MIRA) Guild to repair and reinvigorate the historic Beauxs Arts building The building was designed by the architect George Kelham as an integral part of the City Beautiful design of this neighborhood.

MIRAcle workers perform research; grant writing, board development, fund raising and other activities designed to promote a stronger community through the visual and dramatic arts. This talented and dedicated group of volunteers meets at least once a month to strategize and almost every weekend to clean, repair and paint the inside and outside of the building. The group is committed to making their efforts both fund and effective- FUNECTIVE!.

The main auditorium is pictured above which is where the children used to eat and meet for assembly and is now a 165 seat theater. The 2010 renovations include priming and painting the walls from a dark wine color to a grey green which is historically acurate for the period fro 1915-1940, the Jazz Age. You can keep up with all the programing and events at MTG
